Yarn Along

Yarn Along 6.24.14

I’ve barely been knitting at all lately. I’ve generally been busy with work and social occasions and writing and spending time with a certain addictively entertaining crew of time-traveling Scottish people. On Saturday, though, I sat down and cast on the beginnings of what will eventually be a felted tote bags. A few Christmases ago I was obsessed with felted tote bags, and the patterns I was using back then were pretty time-consuming. This one is quick and easy, though. I predict that once I can devote a good solid weekend to knitting, I’ll get this one done and maybe even start another. Time to stock the Etsy store!

I’m reading a little bit of everything, but I’m especially interested in some of the essays in this collection: Salman Rushdie’s Step Across This Line.

Happy Wednesday!

As always, Yarn Along is hosted by Ginny on her blog, Small Things.

Felted bags are fun! It seems like a lot of us are busier in the summer and tend to get less knitting done. That’s what summer is for!

Good point… I was a teacher up until 2012, and I’m used to having MORE time in the summer. I think I just have to get used to more of a real-world schedule.

Love the brown for your bag, it’s going to be really pretty!

I found your blog via the Yarn Along. Really intrigued by the felted tote bag you are making – what is it going to look like? The only felted projects I ever made were years ago – a pattern from Stitch-n-bitch and something called Market bag (?) from Knitty. It was fun even though I thought it was slightly nerve-wrecking to ‘deliberately’ felt my knitting!

This bag will be on the small side – more like a purse than a tote bag, though probably big enough to hold a book or two. I’m using the reddish-brown as a base color, and there will be some dark green stripes in it as well. I think I’m going to tear the base up and start it over, though. The pattern calls for single-strand worsted yarn, and every felted project I’ve done before has called for double-strand worsted, and I’m worried that it’s going to be too flimsy. I’m going to try double strands and see what happens. Thanks for visiting!
