Yarn Along

Yarn Along 5.13.15

I’ll admit – I haven’t finished either the tan sweater or A Clash of Kings. Last weekend was a busy one for me – busy with good things – and I don’t think I spent more than an hour or two with my knitting. I did do some shopping for the pattern for my next project. In the spirit of moving forward, I decided not to photograph the same old book and sweater yet again (although I will definitely show off the sweater when it’s finished!). I just started reading Song of Solomon with one of the students I tutor. This will likely be our last book together, and it’s one of my all-time favorites. Every time I start to teach this novel, I have trouble just relaxing and enjoying it. I know from experience how disorienting this novel can be for high school students, and I tend to see it through their eyes. I know that a few weeks from now, all this nervousness will pay off because we’ll be reading Part 2, and with every passing chapter our questions will be answered, one by one. I know the book backwards and forwards – I know long passages by heart, even – but of all the books I’ve taught this is the only one that I re-experience on an emotional level every time I read it.

As you can see in the photo, my copy is a bit well-loved.

The yarn in the photo is two leftover skeins from an earlier project. I love that red and orange together, and the yarn is incredibly soft. I’m brainstorming plans for it…

Yarn Along is hosted each Wednesday by Ginny on her blog, Small Things.
