Yes, this is another hat. I haven’t quite gotten over my hat kick yet, although when I use up the rest of this yarn I think I might be ready to move on to a new project. We’ll see. The yarn looks navy in this photo, but really it’s a rich, beautiful, variegated purple, and I think this hat is going to be beautiful. My gauge remains HUGE. The pattern said that this hat is for a child between 9 months and one year, but I think this hat might come close to fitting me! Maybe sometime I’ll try the same pattern with a lighter yarn.
I’m also still reading The Passage, and it’s still good. I’ve been reading it for about two weeks now, not because I’ve been bouncing back and forth between multiple books as I sometimes do but because I’ve honestly been really busy. I’ve been lucky to read 20 or 30 pages a day. It’s honestly been YEARS since I’ve taken this long to read a single book. I’m not having trouble keeping track of what’s happening and remembering details between reading sessions, but I find that when I remember details, I assume that the details come from some other book because it seems as if I read them AGES ago. What book was it where the mother abandons her daughter with the nuns? What book was it with the chemically castrated sex offenders? What book was it with the death row inmates? Was it one of the Ender books? Was it that book I started from the library and never finished? Nope. It was this book. I’m more than halfway through with it now and still very, very invested. Maybe I’ll be able to devote some time to it between now and Friday and will finish it soon. We’ll see.
Also, I received LOTS of feedback to the effect that it’s bad blog etiquette to describe amusing photographs that one THOUGHT of taking but did not take. This is in reference to the grapefruits wearing hats. I have learned my lesson, and sometime soon I will go to the produce market and take pictures of my baby hats on the grapefruits. When I do, you will all be the first to know.
Happy Wednesday!

yummy purple….hopefully you will end up with a hat for YOU!!!
Actually, after I wrote this post last night, I stayed up and finished the hat, and it DOES fit me. My gauge is nuts! But here’s the deal: I hate hats. I never wear them. There is no real winter where I live (northern California), but even in the 11 years I lived in New England I never wore them. Cold ears were far preferable to an overheated head.
